I thought this was really cool...or I may just be slow...but I still think it's really cool:)

Paul didn't just ask the Romans to do random things. Everything he asked them to do related perfectly to what he talked about in the preceeding verse.

1. If you have...(v1)any encouragement from being united with Christ.
Then be (v2)like-minded and united with each other in your beliefs.

2. If you have...(v1)any comfort from His love.
Then (v2) have the same love. Love as Christ loves and make Him your first love.

3. If you have...(v1)any fellowship with the Spirit.
Then (v2) fellowship with one another to do God's work. Be of one spirit and purpose.

4. If you have...(v1) any tenderness and compassion.
Then (v3) do nothing out of selfish ambition or conciet. Be humble and (v4) look to the interests of others.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6124013490180058552.post-50464436632159708402007-04-15T21:24:00.000-04:002007-04-15T21:24:00.000-04:00"Have I made this decision about sin - that it mus..."Have I made this decision about sin - that it must be killed right out of me? It takes a long time to come to a moral decision about sin, but it is the great moment in my life when I do decide that just as Jesus Christ died for the sin of the world, so sin must die in me, not be curbed or suppressed or couteracted, but crucified."

Oswald Chambers writes this in his utterly fantastic book, My Upmost for His Highest. He calls it co-crucifixion. It is the killing of sin. The sins don't all get massacared at once, but one at a time they are removed, making more and more room for the Holy Spirit to come in, so we can identify not only with His death, but also with His ressurection.

As our sin dies in us and we conform to His will and purpose for us, we become more like Christ. Our likeness to Him should be the proof that the dominion of our sin is dead.

"Lord, identify me with Thy death until I know that sin is dead in me."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6124013490180058552.post-1935890713428547072007-04-07T09:17:00.000-04:002007-04-07T09:17:00.000-04:00verse 6 is really cool. "Who, being in the very form of God , did not consider it robbery to be equal with God"

Since Jesus is God in the flesh, being equal with God really couldn't be considered 'robbery'. He can't really steal God's glory if He is God.
He humbled Himself as an example to us to not try to seek any glory for ourselves, but to seek to glorify the Father. So that they may see our good works and praise our Father in heaven (Matt 5:16).

It seems that everything in life comes down to focus. If our focus is on God, then all the glory will naturally go to Him. We won't have to think about serving others because it should flow out of us, out of a love for our Father. It makes so much sense...makes me wonder why it's so hard.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6124013490180058552.post-13810257759510907132007-04-02T11:52:00.000-04:002007-04-02T11:52:00.000-04:00Shallow capacity is bearing all I see, and I knowI...Shallow capacity is bearing all I see, and I know
It's disease, it's loss, it's death knocking at my door
I click these thoughts to something else, something more.

I'm so blue, you're so blue.

Detached harmonies, all the airways scream dissonance
And we know of broken life, broken homes,
Broken hearts and broken bones,
Recycling the paper of a crying world's suicide note and
We're so blue, so blue.

See the world spinning round
A sucking hole that souls go down
Embrace the sorrow of today because repentance finds a way
Only His blood can heal our wounds
Only His blood can heal our wounds
And if repentance finds a way, what's left today to be... blue?

A final symphony,
The precipice too close, you're scaring me -- back away
Sin is real, it doesn't feel, It always, only always, steals.
Run to the cross the only joy that's real.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6124013490180058552.post-73751604685059164612007-04-01T18:29:00.000-04:002007-04-01T18:29:00.000-04:00i love how this illustration also shows the proces...i love how this illustration also shows the process of asking for God's forgiveness. the process of pulling weeds out in big clumps is so very difficult and not very effective. at the same time, like you said, most of the time you are only grabbing hold of the top of the weed and pulling; so the root is still intact. i think that the process of confessing our sins one by one isn't a process that is required for God's forgiveness, but by making that our way of asking for forgiveness, we are forced to examine each and every wrong individually. looking at them for what they are, sin, and seeing why they are what they are. thus (hopefully) providing us with more wisdom needed to combat the temptation of falling into that sin once again.Kaceyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16372025350413789553noreply@blogger.com
